This is a 12 mile, moderate linear walk for people with country walking experience and a reasonable level of fitness. It includes some steep paths and open country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. It will take 5 hours to complete the walk, including stops to take in the views and pictures. Therefore, as a group walk, including rests, stops and travelling time back to Lelant on the bus, I have estimated it will take 6 hours.

I have organised this a pre-ramble (see what I did there…..), together with a few other longer walks over the coming months for the trip I am planning to Snowdonia in the Spring.

So, we will meet at St Uny Church to start the walk at 10:30 am, so we can take advantage of the tides and daylight hours. We will then walk over Porthkidney Sands to Carbis Bay then steadily climb up through Steeple Wood Nature Reserve and up to Knill’s Monument on Steeple Hill, 558ft (170m). From here, we will walk along the lanes and footpaths down into the valley and over to Bowl Rock Chapel, with a steady climb up to Trencrom Hill. Here there are spectacular and panoramic views of West Cornwall with both north and south coasts in view. These two hills are the steepest climbs in the walk and after this, as can be seen from the pictures, it is then mostly downhill with some undulating areas over the mainly grass paths, hard tracks and country lanes. After 5 miles, walking over this contrasting Cornish landscape we arrive at Ludgvan, with its Church and the White Hart Inn, our refreshments stop. Once rested, we will continue along St Michael’s Way for a further 2 miles, down towards the coast over the Marazion Marsh, then onto the beach and St Michaels’s Mount.

Returning by bus from Long Rock, the journey only takes 20-25 minutes back to Lelant, with a short walk over to St Uny Church.

The post code is TR26 2LD, any probs with your Sat Nav, search for St Uny Church, Lelant. There is also additional parking beside the road for several cars and we will meet at the entrance to the Church, at the top of the small car park. If you are coming by car and don't mind offering a lift share, please message on here.
