IVYBRIDGE to BUTTERDON HILL, DARTMOOR - 9 mile Circular Walk

Details
Kev has organised and is going to lead this walk and for this particular event there are no pets allowed. It is a 9 mile moderate walk from Ivybridge starting at St Leonards Road Car Park (which is a pay and display: £5.50 for the day) but cheaper parking can be found nearby.
Heading North out of town we will join the woodland path & follow the River Erme, passing through Pithill Wood, King's Corner and King's wood on the way to Harford. We then join a narrow and winding country lane before the walk joins rougher moorland tracks and paths. We join & follow Stone Row passing Piles Hill & the ancient Butter Brook Settlement as we climb towards Butterdon Hill, the highest point of this route and the site of tumuli. The path then descends to Western Beacon and follows the Moors Way as we return to the start through fields passing some interesting listed buildings on the way.
The walk should take about 5 to 6 hours at a reasonable pace. We climb 500m. This has been designed as a moderate introduction to hiking on Dartmoor for those who are interested in exploring this beautiful wilderness.
