Hike: Point Nepean / 14.5km / 281 ascent / Easy-Intermediate
Details
Take a walk around the historic Point Nepean. The location has spectacular ocean views and amazing historical artifacts to explore. The first shot of the British Empire in the First World War was fired from Fort Nepean. There are historically significant landmarks to visit and tunnels to explore when we reach Fort Nepean.
- Fort Nepean
- The engine house
- Cheviot hill
- Rifle Range building
The trails are relatively flat making this one of the easier trails that I will host. This is all relative so you will still need a good level of walking fitness or just stubborn determination if you haven't done many long walks.
I'll try and maintain a good pace when the terrain is easy and flat so we can spend more time at the destination where we can all explore on our own before regrouping to walk back.
An optional stop at the Sound Bar, Capel Sound at the end as a bonus if we finish on time.
What to bring
- hiking shoes/boots
- 1.5 litres of water (more if weather is hot)
- packed lunch / snacks
- Appropriate clothing for the weather
- rain jacket (it's Melbourne, I never take it out of my pack)
- sun screen/glasses/hat
Meeting Location
Meet at the Police Point Shire Park Carpark, Portsea, just off Defence Road.
