Observing the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies

Details
On Tuesday, Nov 18, MHAA club member Michael Goldstein will be giving a talk about ARP (the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies).
This atlas (published in 1967) was created by Halton “Chip” Arp who was simultaneously one of the greatest observational astronomers of the post-WW II generation, and one of its most celebrated or notorious mavericks.
This special atlas remains a favorite guide for amateur astronomers and astrophotographers obsessed with capturing galaxies in various stages of their life-cycle in all their weird and wonderful variations in galactic form.
Michael Goldstein, recently earned a certificate from the Astronomical League for observing 100 or more Arp peculiar galaxies. His current count is 120 and growing. He’ll be sharing practical suggestions for getting started in Arp observing, including equipment, workflow, and techniques he’s found particularly useful.
Michael's talk will touch on Chip’s life and controversies but focus principally on the Atlas and how to observe peculiar galaxies.
Prior to the presentation MHAA will conduct a club business meeting, which will start at 7:30 PM. The talk will start at 8:00 PM, but anyone who wishes to join the business meeting is welcomed.
Participants may email Bart Hennin or call or text Tim Denman at 845-245-5483 for assistance or for further details.
