MHAA Student Reports on Projects
Details
This night has been reserved for STUDENT PRESENTATIONS!
Past student presentations have proven extremely fascinating and interesting! In that spirit, we will be welcoming several student speakers to discuss recent research activities, hosted by club member Eric Myers. It's a win-win! We get to hear the latest on a variety of diverse topics and the students get a chance to gain valuable communication skills & experience!
Shoshana Shapiro of SUNY New Paltz spent a part of last summer as a participant in the Space Astronomy Summer Program as a "SASP Intern" at the Space Telescope Institute, in Baltimore, MD. Her project involved using data intended only for calibration of the mirrors on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to see if it is possible to identify active galaxy candidates.
Leonides Lopez and Maria Garcia Martinez, both students at SUNY Dutchess, will give a status report on a project still underway to try to use a Seestar S50 smart telescope to measure the magnitudes of variable stars and the potential nova of T Coronae Borealis.
Prior to the presentation, MHAA will conduct a club business meeting, which will start at 7:15 PM. The talk will start at 8:00 PM, but anyone who wishes to join the business meeting is welcomed.
Participants may email Bart Hennin or call or text Tim Denman at 845-245-5483 for assistance or for further details.
