Aug 2026 - Tours in Open Space - Club-Business and Speaker Presentation
Details
On August 18th, Irene Peas will be returning to give us a presentation titled, "Tours in OpenSpace"... OpenSpace is a free, NASA-funded, open-source interactive data visualization software that allows for Virtual Space Tours.
It gets better... The MHAA has secured permission for us to use the John R. Kirk Planetarium (across the hall from where we meet) to view the tour. Work is being done to test the newly integrated software.
IN THE EVENT the planetarium option doesn't work out for any reason, the presentation will still proceed in our regular lecture hall.
*To be clear, the business portion of our meeting (from 7:15-8:00 pm) will still be in the regular lecture hall we always use.
Irene Pease has hosted weekly and monthly livestreams covering a variety of astronomy topics. While living in NYC she produced the Hayden Planetarium video blog, Skylight, co-hosted Astronomy on Tap NYC, and a served as President of the Amateur Astronomers Association. Irene currently astronomizes around Sullivan County and observes from the dark skies of the Catskills.

Prior to the presentation MHAA will conduct a club business meeting, which will start at 7:15 PM. The talk will start at 8:00 PM, but anyone who wishes to join the business meeting is welcomed. Again, this will be in the lecture hall we normally use. We'll transfer over to the Planetarium at 8pm.
Participants may email Bart Hennin or call or text Tim Denman at 845-245-5483 for assistance or for further details.
