Hiking Jordan Valley Pathway (18 miles)/ Camping

Details

Jordan Valley Pathway is an 18 mile trail about 20 miles west of Gaylord (~3.5 hours from Detroit area). We are going to camp Friday and Saturday nights at Pinney Bridge State Forest Campground and hike the full 18 miles on Saturday starting and ending at the campground.

CAMPGROUND PARKING:
Pinney Bridge is a walk-in campground. Parking is about 1/4th mile away where Cascade and Pinney Bridge roads intersect just south of the Jordan River. Parking nearby is limited to about 7 cars -- for this reason carpooling is highly encouraged. If enough cars come, you might have to park up to a mile away (further east on Pinney Bridge road).

SPECIFIC PLAN:
Friday night (Sept 12):
Get a campsite at Pinney Bridge State Forest Campground. There are no reservations but there is a large overflow area in the very unlikely event that all the campsites are full.

Saturday (Sept 13):
Meet at water pump in the campground and start hiking at 9am SHARP.
We will hike at a moderate pace on somewhat hilly terrain with multiple breaks throughout the day. The hike is a loop and will return us to the campground.

Saturday night:
Camp at same spot you reserved on Friday

Sunday morning:
Perhaps a small hike nearby and then go home

COSTS:
The campground is $20 per night per site. Bring cash -- I am not sure if they take anything else.

DOGS:
I think dogs on leashes are allowed but have not confirmed.

OPTIONS:
You do not have to camp with us either night to go on the hike with us. But you do have to be at the water pump at 9am on Saturday. The hike is a big loop so there is no options for a shorter hike without backtracking.

QUESTIONS:
Feel free to post underneath or email me directly. Kindly note that there is likely no cell service at the campground so messages sent during the event will likely go unanswered.

See you on the trail,
Charlie
