You've (kind-a) stayed in shape this winter: hiking, XCS'ing, pool exercising, etc. Your bike and kayak have been officially dusted off for the season THIS IS YOUR YEAR FOR PALM!!!!
Calling all riders with a TRUE sense of adventure (and a sense of humor about sore legs and butts)... for a trip of a lifetime (or at least bragging rights!) put on by a great non-profit run by dozens of dedicated volunteers that plan all year for a great bike tour.
The PALM Bike Ride (Pedal Across Lower Michigan) is coming up soon — and yes, it’s way more doable than it sounds. This is a 6-night, school-to-school ride where hundreds of folks bike about 30 to 50 miles a day (with different route options, but routes can be up to 50 miles). This year's route goes from Pentwater to Oscoda.

(Lake Michigan to Lake Huron.)
Details:

• A PALM SAG wagon is always nearby if your legs give out. (SAG refers to "Support and Gear" -- and not our bod parts that may be sagging!!!). (**I've heard officially they only want you to use the SAG wagon twice and after excessive use they'll ask you to not finish the ride. But, lots of families and youth organizations have their own SAG vehicles... so possibly they would be open to a bribe, if necessary?????**)
• You could even bring our own SAG vehicle and crew for total flexibility
• There are volunteer mechanics along the way to assist. Mechanics may not be equipped to handle some repairs, ESPECIALLY e-bike repairs.
• Plenty of homespun support with snacks, water, etc. along the way.
• E-bikes are welcome. There are charging stations, see their page for details. Hills ahead??? Bring'em on!!!!!
• You pack your own stuff every morning on a truck and it is transported daily—just bring your tent, sleeping bag, deodorant, and gear
• Camping is the standard setup (yes, just like scouts).
• Optional meal plan is served indoors at the host schools each night. Showers inside, not guaranteed hot.
• There’s a designated tent area with electricity for riders who need CPAP machines (power reserved ONLY for that)

Not into roughing it? No problem:
• Go “deluxe” and have a tent + air mattress (theirs) set up for you each night. I think they take down, as well.
• Or skip camping entirely—and opt for hotels or Airbnbs along the route. Or, off to the Ritz if you have your own SAG wagon to get you there. Still pack deodorant.
IT'S THE JOURNEY, NOT THE DESTINATION: This ride is more about fun, and slightly embellishing our accomplishment afterwards (hopefully without having to use the "r" word — rain). It's not a race. I've never done it, but my outdoor club buds tell me it's easier than you think (except the sore butt part) — and a great incentive to get motivated before end of June. Just tell Dr. Google what shape you're in and it will spit out a training plan. I'm going to stage my van at the end and take their bus to the start line. Make this your year to do it, any which way you can!!!!!
Prices go up, and t-shirt deadline is May 10, or until event is sold out.
Deadline for meal plan is June 1, or sold out.
I'm not sure when the deadline is for deluxe tent setup.
Registration stays open until it sells out or the event starts.
