You are cordially invited to join our group for an opportunity to create great nostalgic transportation and/or industrial images at the Railroad Museum in South Miami-Dade (next to Miami Zoo) at 12450 SW 152nd St, Miami, FL 33177.

Be ready to practice and learn specific techniques adapting to the available light and field conditions (positive and negative) and expand your image making composition toolbox with this majestic collection of steam and diesel locomotives, as well as their many historic passenger and freight railcars within the museum’s own railyard surroundings.

The workshop leader / instructor (Rafael) taught photography classes at all levels (including digital editing software) and has personally led field photography outings for over 15 years and will be available all along this shoot for specific tips, technical consultation, and photography information to capture better images and make this a memorable learning experience for you - This workshop is a “One-of-a-Kind” technically supported photoshoot with attention to practical learning for which there is a $10 fee.

We’ll meet at the entrance of the museum, at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 7th, 2025 - Note that admission will be free since it's the 1st Saturday of the month. To get get to the Museum, drive SOUTH on the Florida’s Turnpike… exit in SW 152 Street (Exit 18 toward FL-992 / SW 152nd St - Coral Reef Dr.) and go WEST for less than one mile, turning SOUTH in the Miami Zoo entrance where you’ll see the Museum’s entrance on the RIGHT, turn and park in their area.

-PARTICIPANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING THEMSELVES AND OTHER GROUP MEMBERS AGAINST POSSIBLE VIRUS CONTAMINATION AND IT IS IMPLICITLY AFFIRMED (IN THIS AND ALL MEETUP OUTINGS) THAT EACH ATTENDING PARTICIPANT IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS/HER OWN ACTIONS, PROTECTION, AND SAFEKEEPING-

UPDATE…
IT’S GOING TO BE GOOD FOR TOMORROW’S 11 AM PHOTOSHOOT AT THE GOLD COAST RAILROAD MUSEUM

WE’LL MEET BY THE MUSEUM’S ENTRANCE AT 11:00 AM (PARKING LOT SIDE) to review the location and creative composition ideas, to review the areas available (I have a map for you), collect the $10 workshop fee, and exchange recommended practices for this type of lighting conditions.

EVERYTHING POINTS TO A GREAT DAY FOR PHOTOGRAPHY, with a good weather forecast around the Railroad Museum area (and Miami Zoo) -for the duration of our shoot...with intermittent clouds, temperatures in the mid-80s, winds around 10 mph, and very low chance of rain at 7%.

When turning South at the Miami Zoo Entrance, STAY TO THE RIGHT for the sign of the RR Museum… as you drive in, you’ll see the free parking area / MUSEUM OPENS AT 11:00 AM - ADMISSION TO THE MUSEUM WILL BE FREE SINCE IT’S THE FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH.

I recommend a medium-sized zoom (around 24-105mm) to cover most of the situations and packing lightly for mobility and ease of walking around: noting that tripods are not a real issue here, but it gets crowded. Check your battery and memory card(s), clean your camera and lens (take a few test shots to confirm that all is good) and get other items you may want to take. Bring water if you like but there are snacks, water, and soda vending machines at the museum.

BRING YOUR BEST DISPOSITION AND HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
