BACKGROUND: Coconut Grove is the oldest permanent settlement in Miami-Dade. New residents were lured here with the Homestead Act in the late 1800s, particularly from the Bahamas, and the Keys. In 1919 it became its own city, but in 1925 it was annexed by the City of Miami. The area is often referred to as "The Grove" and many locals take pride that Coconut Grove is one of the greenest areas of Miami. The Grove has become an upscale, leafy neighborhood with relaxed sidewalk cafes and chic shops in and around the CocoWalk mall.
Rafael, the workshop leader, has taught photography for many years and has personally led a multitude of field outings through Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Rafael will be available all along this walk for specific tips, technical consultation, historic facts, and photography information to capture better images and make this a memorable learning experience -This workshop is a “One-of-a-Kind” technically supported photoshoot with attention to practical learning for which there is a $10 fee.
-PARTICIPANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE IN PROTECTING THEMSELVES AND OTHER GROUP MEMBERS AGAINST POSSIBLE VIRUS CONTAMINATION BY ANY MEANS POSSIBLE / IT IS IMPLICITLY AFFIRMED (IN THIS AND ALL MEETUP OUTINGS) THAT EACH ATTENDING PARTICIPANT IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS/HER OWN ACTIONS, PROTECTION, AND SAFEKEEPING-
UPDATE FOR TOMORROW…
It’s going to be a GREAT DAY for PHOTOGRAPHY, especially in Coconut Grove, with temperatures at 80 degrees, 25% cloud cover, and no chances of rain.
WE’LL MEET IN FRONT OF GLASS & VINE RESTAURANT IN PEACOCK PARK (2820 McFarlane Rd., Miami 33133) AT 10:00 AM to review our photowalk, collect the $10 MeetUp fee, exchange technical information -such as camera settings, what to expect for scenery, talk about photo opps in the area. Remember we’ll walk together, and I’ll be available to provide ideas and technical solutions all along the route.
As for a lens focal length recommendation to bring... a wide to mid-large zoom (24-240mm or so) would be good; BUT I always accommodate my visual compositions on the lens I “feel” like using -as a personal challenge, ie. bring a wide angle and look to create “open feeling” photos -and not too close on people images to avoid feature distortions.
Don’t forget to charge your camera battery, clean camera & lens, check memory card(s) and bring water if you’ll like, but there are restaurants and cafeterias in the area. Tripods are not advisable due to an impediment to foot traffic.
WE’LL BE IN THE GROOVE AT THE GROVE… SEE YOU THERE!
