MiamiJS, Tinker.Build (http://tinker.build/), and Miami NodeJS (https://www.meetup.com/Miami-node-js-Meetup/) teamed up to host NodeBots Day 2016 in Miami.

NodeBots Day is world wide event where people learn how to control the physical world with JavaScript. We're going to get together, collaborate and hack using Arduinos, Tessels, Edison's, Raspberry Pis, NodeCopters, robots, and any other devices that just need more input...

All you need is some basic JavaScript knowledge and desire to learn.

If you have any JavaScript experience, you can now use your powers to manipulate machines. From blinking lights (http://instagram.com/p/cFVNtmJxlc/) to Sumo Bot battles (http://nodebots.io/sumo.html), Remote control cats (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NYyGC-wZKU), and Bull fighting with quadcopters... Challenge: Build a Check In / Check Out Device

Using an available Raspberry Pi/Arduino circuit boards, card readers or sensors, build a simple tool to log a member's check-in/check-out activity. This invention will be used to track Moonlighter Member Activity as they walk in and out of the Fabrication Lab and Co-Making Space.

The user scenario is as follows:

• Users must be able to identify themselves to the device with a card when checking in and out.
• User must be notified in real-time that they are checked in and out.

Rules

• To compete, you must have a working demo by the end of the session.
• NodeBots software SDKs must be used (minus any cloud based activity).
• All parts are allowed so long as a single part does not manage the entire flow (ie. the device has to be original in its ability to execute the user scenario).

Judging Criteria

The completed build will be judged on four main attributes:

• Innovation/Creativity
• Functioning Demo
• Usability
• Overall Device Cost (BOM list must be provided)

BONUS POINTS Device is integrated to a cloud solution making it more intelligent (i.e. Storing logs, user accounts, etc)

Challenge Prize:
• 1 x SparkFun Inventor's Kit - V3.2 (https://links10.mixmaxusercontent.com/sfXTn9k3SpgqHMuWv/l/KzKr7Kge2N2OVMcG9?messageId=VGe6KnEUTKLfVePVy&rn=gIh5Wa0NXayNkI&re=i02bj5SZ2lGdhVmcjRnZph2c0h2Zp5GQzNmI) thanks to Tinker.Build (http://tinker.build/)
