Michigan Atheists is proud to welcome Dr. Vivek Palavali, MD, an accomplished neurosurgeon, author, documentary filmmaker, and secular humanist, for a fascinating presentation based on his newly released book: Searching for Soul: A Brain Surgeon's Exploration of Near-Death Experiences and Afterlife.

For centuries, people have reported extraordinary experiences during moments of clinical death and severe trauma. Are these experiences evidence of an afterlife—or can neuroscience provide a more compelling explanation?

Drawing upon more than 30 years of experience as a brain surgeon, Dr. Palavali examines the science behind near-death experiences, out-of-body experiences, spirituality, religion, consciousness, and the enduring human belief in a soul. Combining modern neuroscience, history, philosophy, and real-world case studies, he explores one of humanity's oldest questions: What happens when we die?
