Phishing: Malicious Actors Moving to Quality over Quantity

Details

We're back again with another Duo Tech Talk! This time, we're excited to host Martijn Grooten (https://twitter.com/martijn_grooten) to share his insights on phishing, and changes in malicious actors' methodology. He is the Editor of Virus Bulletin and a security researcher.

Email remains the main infection vector in many cyber attacks, from ordinary banking malware to advanced intrusions of companies and organizations. However, in recent years an important shift has taken place in the way non-targeted malicious email campaigns are being conducted. This change, which can be described as a shift from quantity to quality, distinguishes such campaigns from ordinary spam. It affects both the detection rate by email security products and the likeliness for a user to click on the emails. In this talk, Martijn will discuss the current state of malicious email campaigns and will focus in particular of the aforementioned change and the implications it has for understanding how and why users fall for such emails and how we can better protect them.

The Talk will be streaming live starting at 6:30pm on Youtube: https://duo.sc/techtalk-may2019
