Uwe Friedrichsen: Beyond the Saga pattern
After the talk we have time for more drinks and smalltalk.
Abstract:
The Saga pattern is often advertised as a general solution for coordination issues spanning multiple services. And while the pattern does a good job in the contexts it is applicable to, unfortunately it is only applicable to fewer contexts most people think.
In this session, we will first briefly revisit the Sage pattern and see how it can support us. Then we will look at the limitations of the pattern, identifying the contexts it cannot be applied to. Based on that we will look at alternative approaches to address such contexts, building on distributed systems "classics" like, e.g., "Building on quicksand" by Pat Helland and Dave Campbell.
After that session, you will have a much better understanding when and when not to apply the Saga pattern and what you can do if the Saga patterns does not fit your context.
