Session 1: "Small is beautiful - Small Language Models for Efficient AI Solutions" by Filip W.

In this session, we’ll take a deeper dive into the world of Small Language Models (SLMs), efficient and privacy-conscious alternatives to traditional LLMs. These compact models enable powerful AI applications with lower operational costs and the flexibility for fully local inference—perfect for anyone looking to reduce computational hunger without sacrificing performance.
We’ll spotlight Microsoft’s Phi family of models, exploring their versatility across language tasks with (relatively) small resource demands. From local development scenarios to deployment on Azure, you’ll discover how SLMs can deliver big benefits on a small scale. We’ll also look at embedded use cases, where these models can run entirely within a mobile or self-hosted app, maximizing privacy and performance in an efficient package.
