We Only Host this Special Mid-Atlantic Hiking Group (MAHG) Flagship Hike When the Full Moon Falls On a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, AND Only if the Moon Will Be Up During the Hike

This special event is our very popular Washington DC "Monuments by Moonlight" sneaker hike, as featured in the Washington Post, focusing on memorials near the Tidal Basin and the National Mall! We will walk for approximately 4 miles, around some of the most scenic and majestic parts of the national Capitol Mall.

Join us as we visit many of the city’s famous memorials, along with some monuments, and more. Our hike plan includes but is not limited to the Washington Monument, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial, and the World War II Memorial. We will enjoy time to enjoy each memorial as well as take some photos.

Hike Pace Options

All Paces Spend the Same Amount of Time Enjoying the Monuments Under the Full Moon. What Varies is the Pace BETWEEN Stops.

The pace options available for this hike are detailed below for you to review. When you RSVP, please answer the question asking which pace preference you prefer (if you know at this time but is not required). Having this information before the event, allows me to forecast better how many volunteers to ask to help out with each of the different paces — or if a particular pace is needed at all! So, a big thank you for helping us to help better you and, in turn, we all benefit.

Pace 1: A social walking pace of about 2.0mph. We usually have one to two groups led at this pleasant social walking pace. Please note that this is not a stroll but a hike.

Pace 2: A moderate pace of about 2.5-3.0mph which is the speed of an average hiker and used in most guide books as a rule of thumb for determining how long a hike will take. This option is typically our most requested pace, and we usually have at least two groups dedicated to this option and have had up to several.

Pace 3: If at least four people request this pace we are more than happy to offer this very brisk/workout pace of 3.5-4.0+mph. If you sign up for this pace, be sure to remember what you asked for-grin -- so no complaints as it is not for the faint of heart and is a very fast hike pace.
