Dinner Meeting

Details

Hello Everyone,

Mark your calendar for the upcoming Dinner Meeting to be held on Sunday, February 23, 2014. The featured speaker for this evening is Justin Schieber who will be presenting "'On the God of the Apologists' - fawns, ferns, and epistemic incoherence."

The existence of suffering or evil has always been one of the biggest challenges to belief in Christian theism. In response to probabilistic versions of arguments from suffering, we are often told that God works in mysterious ways. Does this response provide a successful defeater to probabilistic versions of the Evidential Argument from Suffering?

Join Mr. Schieber as he argues that some new, powerful arguments from the philosophical literature have thrown a destructive monkey wrench into any theistic project which might employ the 'God is Mysterious' response.

About the speaker:

Justin Schieber was raised a believing Christian until his mid-teens when he was forced to take up intellectual arms as a good Christian soldier against his own growing doubts. He lost the battle. Now, Justin Schieber is co-host of the Reasonable Doubts Radio Show and Podcast ( http://freethoughtblogs.com/reasonabledoubts/ ) and an active member of the Michigan chapter of CFI (Center for Inquiry).

Justin enjoys promoting a friendly, yet firm, skepticism toward religious claims. He has lectured on the philosophical arguments for and against the existence of God and has also participated in several philosophical public debates with Christian Apologists on the existence of God in the United States and Canada - most of which can be found online.

Dinner and Socializing will be from 5 to 6:15 PM.
Program will start at 6:30 PM.

"An Atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church. An Atheist believes that deed must be done instead of a prayer said. An Atheist strives for involvement in life and not escape into death. He wants disease conquered, poverty vanished, war eliminated."…….Madalyn Murray O’Hair
