See all- Grateful Dead Meetup at the Movies with Yummy Thai Encore!Basil Babe, Ypsilanti, MI
Each year a few theaters around the state show a Grateful Dead concert film. This time it's the wonderful "[Grateful Dead Movie](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Grateful_Dead_Movie The Grateful Dead Movie - Wikipedia)" which covers the final run of 1974 dead shows at [Winterland](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winterland_Ballroom Winterland Ballroom - Wikipedia) in San Francisco. Plus it's on IMAX!
The movie starts at 1230pm on Saturday at the [Cinemark 20 ](https://www.cinemark.com/theatres/mi-ypsilanti/cinemark-ann-arbor-20-and-imax Movie Theater In Ypsilanti, Michigan | Ann Arbor 20 IMAX) in Ypsilanti. The plan is to meet at the Okemos park-and-ride, and then carpool to Ypsi, about an hour drive.
After, we will go to the nearby Thai place called [Basil Babe](https://basil-babe.com/ Basil Babe). This place has great ratings, is reasonably prpriced, and a great menu.
I already bought my ticket for the movie. My seat is M15 if you want to sit near me. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased [here](https://tickets.fandango.com/mobileexpress/seatselection?row_count=505001297&tid=AACUH&a=13184&mid=241105&chainCode=CNMK&sdate=2025-08-16%2012%3A30&wssaffid=13184_Trafalgar&wssac=2 Choose Seats | Fandango).
So....care to let your inner child out and let your freak flag fly with me?
- Pastrami Love?STATESIDE DELI, Okemos, MI
I have great love for Katz’s Deli in NYC. Whenever I am in the city, I make sure to go there for their glorious reuben and matzo ball soup! This place may not be NYC, but it does have those 1000 layer sandwiches with yummy spiced meats and kraut and Swiss. But if you are a vegetarian/vegan, do not fear. Stateside Deli also has avocado toast, falafel, vegan sandwiches, and more. Just check out their menu and decide to meet your fellow foodies on a Sunday for lunch :)
- MK Ultra? Or MK Pho?MK Pho Asian Cuisine, Lansing, MI
MK Pho, the relatively new place in Lansing that serves up a short but tasty menu of pho, pad thai, laab, and more, has a name that reminds me of the old (and horrid) CIA program MK Ultra. We can remake that bad memory from the past in the form of tasty bowls of hot broth, laab in all its glory, and more.
Note that this event is on a Thursday, which will be the new evening date for dinner until December 2025. But do not fear if you cannot make it, we will be holding more weekend events to make up for it :)
