Meeting Time: 2:00 PM
Meeting Place: Jones Mill Trail parking lot
Estimated Time: 3 hours
Program Leader: Ranger Leslie
Few parks have more rare wildflowers than Long Hunter State Park, and most of these unusual plants are found in the wild and rugged cedar glades. The desert-like glades are a wonderland of wildflowers, and the Jones Mill Trail and Bryant Grove Trail feature an array of spring blooms, including some species found nowhere else in the world. Join Ranger Leslie as we search for and ID some unusual glade species, including Nashville Breadroot, Eastern Prickly Pear, Tennessee Coneflower, and Gattinger's Prairie Clover.
We'll meet at the Jones Mill Trail parking lot on Barnett Road and hike a mile or two along this beautiful, winding trail. Then if we're not too tired, we'll next explore the Bryant Grove Trail for another mile of hiking and also check out the roadsides along the way.
We will be hiking for approximately 3 hours, so please bring plenty of water to stay hydrated and your choice of bug repellent.
No pets, please.
Note: I've posted this hike here to give Meetup members first dibs, but the hike is limited to the first 12 people who sign up on the park website. Once the hike is full, the park website will not allow anymore signups.
Directions To Jones Mill Trail:
Turn into Bryant Grove Recreation Area on Barnett Rd. (9933 Barnett Rd, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122) and go about a half-mile, then turn left into the paved Jones Mill Trail parking lot.
