What we’re about
Having been known as the National Parks group for some time we have decided to rename the group to bring it into line with other groups we organise.
Watch this space as more great events will be added shortly.
Most events in our calendar are shared with other Meetup groups we are involved with so although sometimes it looks like only a small number are going the overall numbers may be much larger.

See all- Buxton Pavilion Gardens ParkrunPavilion Gardens, Buxton, Buxton
Buxton Pavilion Gardens parkrun happens every Saturday at 9am and everyone can join in. You can run, walk, be pushed or take a dog! All are welcome.
A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you!
The average finish time for runners is around 30 mins but you can take as long as you like with plenty of signs and volunteers to make sure everyone finds their way from start to finish.
There's nothing to pay and you don't have to pre-register although the big advantage to doing that is that you get a barcode and this enables you at the end to get your finish time and where you did in comparison to others. It is age graded so you may well get a high position in your age class even if you arrive at the finish well behind many others.
To register fora FREE barcode use the following link. You cannot do that part on the day!

We can grab a post parkrun coffee at the Pavilion Gardens Café and chat to others who have taken part.
Some of us are staying in Buxton to go for a walk starting at 11am also meeting in the Pavilion Gardens but that is entirely optional.
Meet as a group close to the Lake by the Parkrun start flag by 08:45 so we can look out for each other during and after the run.

JUST THREE MALE PLACES LEFT
We are only sorry that this idyllic spot can only be enjoyed by a lucky few. See the South as few get the chance. The venue gets amazing feedback.
With Dorking to the South and Leatherhead to the North and Guilford to the West there is a huge unspoilt area of Green Belt that has avoided time. Massive areas of ancient woodland in an area 50 miles by 25 miles with high vantage points and low valleys gives us so much scope.
Just have a look at this amazing walking area:-

The venue is car free and a digital desert so expect to be totally chilled for the whole weekend. Access is a 20 min walk across National Trust property. Amazing.
There will of course be a bonus walk Friday for those available for an 11am start and general arrival will be 6pm +.
Fridays walk meet point is very close to J8 of the M25 so easily reached with the aim of meeting around 10:45am for prompt 11am start. We follow a series of hills on the North Downs Way to the North of Reigate and cross the M25 for our return which should be interesting in itself.
Saturdays walk will be to Box Hill probably the most well known landmark in the area, Jane Austen based her picnic scene from "Emma" there, Keats and Chesterton wrote about it, more recently Anything But the Girl sung about it (On Box Hill) and Lambert famously painted it (now in the National Gallery). We can just enjoy it and the many interesting features. We can decide on the day how much of the Box Hill Country Park to explore including the zig zag road used in the 2012 Olympics, the ruins of an abandoned 18th Century Fort etc etc. We also visit Denbies Vineyard, the largest in England. 10-12 miles in all depending on options.
Also on Saturday and also incorporating Box Hill, participants will have the chance to participate in our next group 30k+ challenge walk being our very own Surrey Three Peaks Challenge Walk incorporating ascent of Box Hill, Leith Hill and Holmbury Hill with some incredible views over the surrounding countryside. This will be published as a separate event but those taking part in the weekend are very welcome to join in.
Sunday, we'll take a more leisurely approach but lots of countryside still to explore which we can tailor to everyone's departure plans.
To keep food prep to a minimum we shall not cater at the venue on the Friday night but eat out at a local hostelry and ask those coming later to eat on the way.
Help yourself breakfasts and lunch packups are provided as are tea and coffee throughout the weekend together with an evening meal on the Saturday night.
Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms with full bedding provided but not towels.
The cost will be paid as a non-returnable deposit of £20 payable when you book, to which must be added Meetup booking fees. The balance of £39 will be payable by BACS 5 weeks prior to the event being 5th April 2024. You can also pay the whole amount of £59 by BACS but in which case you need to message us to let us know abd we can then add you to the event manually.
The bad news is that there are just 14 places for this unique experience and when they are gone, they are gone!
