Devil’s Lake- Hiking, Kayaking, Paddle Board and Lunch

Details
Let’s spend the day enjoying Devil’s Lake.
Please arrive at 9:45am to get your water, snacks and backpack ready, there are also bathrooms close by to use. I plan to be on the trail at 10am.
Parking – when you arrive at the north shore parking area head towards the “additional” parking area and go to the second parking lot. The start of the East Bluff trail is by there. I will be in a bright orange shirt so you can find me at the trailhead.
The Hike – We will not be on a timed hike, my hikes are all about enjoying the scenery, stopping for breaks, taking pictures, talking and make new friends. Please don’t let the mileage or the uphill worry you. We will do the East Bluff/Upland/Steinke Basin Loop which is about 7 miles. In the beginning during the hardest part of the hike we will be stopping and enjoying the fabulous views. The first two miles will be a variety of rock steps, paved sections and grass/dirt. We will be going up the east bluff area. We will stop at Balanced Rock and Devil’s Doorway for pictures if the group would like. We will then go into the woods and be on a gravel trail for a bit and then more into the woods for normal grass/dirt. At the five mile mark we will be going by Steinke Basin parking lot/trailhead and there is a pit toilet there if anyone wants to use it. There will be benches along the whole route for breaks. In the last part of the hike, there are some trees that are down across the trail, we will just need to hop over them. Please make sure and pack lots of water, snacks, electrolytes, bug spray and trekking poles if you need to use them. This hike is on AllTrails if you would like to download it before hand, I have modified my version a little so we can see Balanced Rock and Devil's Doorway.
After the hike we will head over to the south shore beach area at Devil’s Lake and spend some time cooling off in the water swimming, kayaking or taking your paddle board in. You also have the option to rent at the consessions building. You can also bring your hammock to relax in under the trees or a blanket or chair for the beach.
Rental Prices:
- Single Kayak- $17.00 per hour
- Double Kayak- $25.00 per hour
- Paddle Boards- $22.00 per hour
You must have your ID and there is a $100 deposit to rent, PFDs provided
We can get lunch at the North Shore Chateau, there is a small store and a small ice cream stand there also. Snacks are also availalbe at the south shore concessions. Or you can eat the lunch you brought.
After we are done for the day you can head home OR if you plan on joining in the tubing event on Sunday morning you can camp over at my place and leave with the group in the morning to meet the others for tubing.
