Attention Doggies with Cool Owners! – Camping/Hiking

Details

Let’s make this into a new yearly event! Attention all doggies of every shape, size, color and breed!!! Tell your owners you want to go away for a weekend to the awesome Kettle Moraine State Forest-Northern Unit for a weekend playdate with lots of other doggies!

Right now, this is open only to people with dogs, but if it doesn’t fill up, I’ll send out a notice and open it to everyone else. If you don’t have a dog and want to come, borrow your neighbors, kids, friends’ dog, see if maybe a shelter will let you take one out and join us! 😊

The first and largest unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest offers year-round recreation among world-famous glacial landforms. Visitors can swim at three beaches, enjoy challenging mountain biking trails or groomed ski trails, hike the Ice Age Trail, take in a nature program, or just escape among 30,000 acres of rolling, wooded hills and prairies. The Ice Age Visitor Center is open all year. The forest has over 350 campsites, including family, group, equestrian and backpack opportunities.

We will be staying at the Greenbush Group Campground site G2. The group site is 30 feet the parking lot. Our group site is by a pit toilet, we have fire ring, and a couple picnic tables. There are no shower facilities at the park. All garbage must be carried out.

With these many furry bottoms running around we need to pay attention to picking up after our dogs. No one wants to walk to the pit toilet in the middle of the night and step in a special surprise on the way. Please be very attentive to your dog’s areas of business and pick up immediately afterwards.

We will plan on doing some hiking both days, we can also sit around and share dog stories, tips on breaking bad habits, first aid tips, recommend favorite treats, and different gear/supplies to bring when camping/backpacking with your dogs. Maybe having a little talent show, the dogs can show off their best tricks. I know my boy Waylon will challenge any dog in the food eating category, he can have his bowl empty in 2.2 seconds. 😊 If you have a lighted collar, it would be a great idea to bring it, we don’t want any lost dogs in the park at night.
