Meet at Trooperstown Forest Car Park...if coming from Dublin you will see a sign for it on the left just before Laragh.

A moderately strenuous ramble - up and around Trooperstown Hill (430m), aka Mweeleen, and it's neighbour, Round Hill (398m) aka 'Boot Hill'. Gaelic: Maoilin meaning 'little round hill'.

Before heading out onto the hillside, we'll head up the forest trail that crosses the new bridge over the Avonmore River - this stretch is the start of the Avonmore Way, a waymarked trail that follows the course of the Avonmore River, finishing near Rathdrum. Great views onto Glendasan Valley and of nearby hills including Scarr, Camaderry, Brockagh, Derrybawn, Lugnaquilla etc. and Croaghanmoira to the south.

Duration: allow around ~3 hours (7k and ~ 350m overall ascent)

Difficulty level: moderate-strenuous. There is one moderately strenuous uphill stretch, but we'll pace ourselves.

Please do a moderate hike before attempting a strenuous one!

Required: Hiking boots, waterproof raingear, spare extra layer(s), hat and gloves, drinks (incl. water), snacks. If you have something high-vis, bring it along.

You should consult your GP before commencing hiking.
