Si tratta di una nuova community di sviluppatori, scienziati e "lettori-di-paper" che amano le scienze informatiche e si trovano per discutere articoli accademici di rilevanza storica.

In questo evento congiunto, Riccardo Tommasini (Ph.D. Candidate @ Politecnico di Milano) ci guiderà in una carrellata dei tre articoli che hanno segnato la storia dello Stream Processing, andando a calare nel pratico i concetti teorici su esempi con Kafka Streams e la novità del mese, ksqlDB.

Per l'occasione, saremo ospiti del Politecnico di Milano presso la Sala Conferenze del Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria (DEIB), in zona Città Studi (metro verde, fermate Piola o Lambrate).

It's a Streamer World! A Journey Through Processing Flows of Data

ABSTRACT
Riccardo Tommasini, PhD Candidate @ PoliMi will give an overview on the following foundational papers and how they relate to Apache Kafka, Kafka Streams, and KSQL-DB.
• The CQL continuous query language: semantic foundations and query execution (Arasu et al., 2006)
• The dataflow model: a practical approach to balancing correctness, latency, and cost in massive-scale, unbounded, out-of-order data processing (Akidau et al., 2015).
• Stream and Tables: Two sides of the same coin (Sax et al., 2018)

The meetup will be preceded by "Waiting for Papers We Love", a longer-winded deep dive into the topic, with students and other guest professors from PoliMi. Participation to "Waiting for Papers We Love" is not required to attend the main event.

The presentation will be in English.

SPEAKER
Riccardo Tommasini is a Research fellow at the University of Tartu, Estonia. Riccardo did his PhD at the Department of Electronics and Information of the Politecnico di Milano with a thesis on "Velocity on the Web". The thesis, that he is waiting to defend, investigates the velocity aspects that concern the Web environment, together with other challenges such as variety and volume. His research interests span Stream Processing, Knowledge Graphs, Logics and Programming Languages. Riccardo's tutorial activities comprise Stream Reasoning Tutorials at ISWC 2017, ICWE 2018, ESWC 2019, and TheWebConf 2019, and DEBS 2019. Riccardo's Teaching activities include Interoperability and Semantic Technologies, Middleware Technologies, Principles of Programming Languages, and Knowledge Engineering, Big Data (Tartu, Estonia).
