What we’re about

Welcome to the Mill Road Film Group! We come together (in person, not online) to watch and discuss films monthly (THIRD Wednesday of the month), and sometimes more often, near Mill Road, Cambridge (UK!). Just like a book club, but with movies! Our group is a way to connect, share recommendations, and explore diverse genres and styles of cinema. Whether you're a casual movie-goer or a cinephile, everyone is welcome - provided we can still all fit round one big table.

*** If you'd like to join us, please contact the organiser, and (assuming there's space - usually there is, or soon is) you're in for the next gathering. BTW, you won't see events here, and we organise ourselves in a separate chat group. ***

Here's how it works: We take turns recommending a movie all will watch and then meet in the pub to discuss. The sweet spot is a movie you've heard of but few have ever watched (or a foreign film you'd probably know about if you lived in that country). We avoid recent blockbusters - but recent movies can be in the mix. Obscure movies are fine provided easy to find to watch.

Mainly it's about having your horizons widened and any preconceptions gently challenged. If you're a total film buff/bore you might find us a bit ignorant and mainstream, but everyone is welcome. We mainly want to just enjoy a discussion in a quiet place over a drink, but if we learn stuff too, all the better.

(Please note - This is a group based on the idea of regular attendance. Everyone sometimes has to miss one due to work or other issue - but the idea is that you expect to come unless you can't. If you're looking for a group where you can dip in and out according to how you're placed, there are other good groups like that. You're welcome to come along and see whether you think it's a good fit for you - everyone is always free to leave:)
