The trail starts from a car park along the banks of Dovestone Reservoir and traces the water’s edge as we make our way northward and continue along the adjacent Yeoman Hey Reservoir. The trail involves a gentle incline at first, which steepens once we pass Greenfield Reservoir and make our way onto the Ravenstones ridge and to Ashway Moss. This ascent up Birchen Clough is a rocky scramble. It follows a faint path along the cascadingbrook and requires more scrambling towards the top.
Once we reach the top, we'll encounter the Trinnacle, a popular rock formation of towering gritstone pillars on Ravenstones Edge that make for some excellent photo opportunities. Climbing the Trinnacle is extremely dangerous and falls have occurred, do not attempt this. From this vantage point, we’ll have breathtaking views of the reservoirs in the valley below, surrounded by heather-clad moorlands and forests.
