Advanced Deployments with Bicep

Kevin will be presenting the talk that he gave at the Microsoft Reactor demonstrating use of Bicep for real world deployments

Abstract

We will explore using Bicep to deploy a more complex set of services in Azure. Services like Application Insights, Key Vault, and Azure Monitor can quickly increase the complexity of your deployment with added requirements. We will discuss design considerations for templates with multiple modules. We will share tips and tricks for developing your Bicep modules to be re-usable across multiple projects. This will help you to develop, test, and deploy your Bicep templates and modules faster. We will go over a brief overview of Bicep and the problems it was created to solve. We will investigate some of the features of the tooling as well as tips to help you to work with templates more efficiently.  We’ll cover some tips and tricks including snippets, module and variable navigation, Bicep Deploy, using outputs to test parameters, Azure resource naming, bicep config files, and more! Biography

Kevin is a Machine Learning Engineer for the Octavian Technology Group who is a certified Microsoft Azure Architect and DevOps Expert. He is passionate about helping his customers to solve issues through AI, automation, and DevOps best practices. When he is not automating himself out of a job, you can find him playing volleyball or biking, gaming with friends online, or trying to read one of those many books in the waiting-to-read pile.
