MSP Holiday Urban Walk in Candy Cane Lane
Details
A MSP tradition - walking in Candy Cane Lane. Are you going to join us? We'll be going to Candy Cane Lane on Wednesday, December 17 at 6:30pm.
Note: Candy Cane Lane asks for a voluntary donation online (http://candycanelanewi.com/) or in person to the MACC fund. Therefore, this activity is FREE, though we encourage you to donate.
Grab a hot beverage (optional), bundle up, and join us for a stroll through "Candy Cane Lane," a Christmas light show sponsored and executed by a group of neighbors in West Allis. We will start walking at 6:35 PM (because it is cold). If you join us late, we will walk north on 96th street first, and snake our way through the neighborhood. Afterwards, we will continue the fun and get a treat at Oscar's on Hwy 100 and Lincoln (optional, of course.)
History of Candy Cane Lane:
In December, 1984, a group of neighbors joined together to collect donations for the MACC Fund – Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc., in honor of a neighbor's child diagnosed with cancer. The neighbors decorating their homes in festive lights and encouraged visitors to make a small donation to the MACC fund as they drove through the neighborhood.
Since its inception, the neighborhood program has raised more than $2.8 million to supporting research, treatment, and the eventual discovery of a cure for childhood cancers and related blood diseases.
This is MSP's 6th annual trip to Candy Cane Lane.
Like other urban walks, we will be having frozen dessert after. It's Wisconsin and everyday can be custard day! .Our plan is head to Oscar's Frozen Custard after the walk (2362 S. 108th St. Milwaukee, WI 53227.)
In the tradition of MSP (started by Geoff to see if people read to the end), we write information way at the end that may or may not be on topic...
Fun fact: Ryan loves this tradition and took it over from Just Tom. We use to grab dinner beforehand then walkover. And who knows Joan, who lives a few blocks away, might just show up as a surprise guest who didn't RSVP...
