What we’re about
MINDFUL MOVEMENT HOUSTON - Tai-chi / Qigong is a guided community practice where we will explore and build on various movements and principles of Qigong with a focus in Tai-chi by meeting in person, once or twice a month under gazebo somewhere in northwest HTX
Who is this for?
✤Anyone interested in trying Qigong or Tai-chi for the first time.
✤Those with some experience looking for a consistent practice group.
✤People seeking gentle, low-impact exercise for health and relaxation.
This group aims to be a supportive environment where we can all learn and grow together. If you have experience with Tai Chi or Qigong, or know helpful tips, you are invited to chime in and share your knowledge. That's truly these practices are learned – through repetition, observation, and communal exchange
✲What's qigong? Qigong (pronounced "chee-gong"): This is a broader term that refers to a variety of practices involving physical postures, breathing techniques, and focused intention. The word "Qi" means vital life energy, and "gong" means cultivation or work
✲What's tai-chi ? Tai Chi: This is a Chinese martial art known for its slow, graceful, and continuous movements. It's often called "meditation in motion" because it combines physical postures, gentle movement, deep breathing, and focused awareness
✲How do relate one another and what do they mean in this group ?
Qigong is the larger umbrella of energy cultivation practices, and Tai Chi is one specific, practice under that umbrella. They share the same core goals of promoting well-being through mindful movement and breath.
In our group, we'll dabble in both Tai Chi's flowing forms and various Qigong exercises, all to help us cultivate vital energy . Please note; This is a facilitated community practice, not a formal class with a certified instructor. We learn and flow together
What to Expect on our group practice:
✤Simple strength and stretching postures, and flowing body movements
✤Memorization: We'll also explore movements and forms using online resources (like a shared video) to memorize and then practice them during our meeting time
✤Following a set sequence of movements as a group: The opportunity for everyone to contribute their insights and learn from each other as we repeat the sequences our meeting time
✤ Focusing on form : Be open to receive gentle guidance and practical pointers to deepen your understanding of the movements, breathing, and body awareness
✤Breathing practices : breathe deeply, and connect with the present .
