This is an awesome (and tiring) hike up across and around the sides of Transview Mountain, directly south of Parunuweap Canyon and Zion. This mountain has the finest view of Eastern Zion, period. It's magnificent.

The hike requires basic ability to handle one's self on steep, difficult terrain, plus considerable stamina. Also be aware that this location is very far away from emergency services. Extra care and caution is called for at all times. This isn't just a hike, it's an expedition.

The hiking route has over a mile of sand walking, a couple of miles in the woods, and over two miles of travel across colossal red and white sandstone bowls, with that superb Zion panorama directly across Parunuweap Canyon to the north.

Basically this hike is what cross-country hiking is all about.
And the views are icing on the cake!

Prep:
3 big bottles water, some food, sun hat, gloves for the rocks, stout footware. Layers in case it gets cold.

Drive:
From the Sinclair Station/Davis Market in La Verkin we drive east on Route 59 halfway to Kanab, turning left at Cane Beds on a paved highway to Coral Pink Sand Dunes.

Halfway to the dunes, we turn left onto remote sandy roads for 12 miles to the trailhead close to Transview Mountain. The driving is pretty easy, but does require a good 4x4 vehicle because of soft sand in many places.

Use the Conversation section of this page to organize carpooling.

See you there! M+J
