If you haven't been to water Canyon before, you are in for a real treat. After just a short sweaty climb up an easyish trail, it's suddenly a nice wet creek running through solid redrock. It's splashy. It's gurgly. It's swarming with kids. And yes, if you bring a bathing suit, you can get wet. You could even bring water shoes and walk in the water a little bit.

But that's just the beginning of the fun. Right after that, we hit the steep trail, which climbs right up out of the canyon to the side. It's pretty strenuous, but it's a well-made trail and it's heavily used.

From the top, we traverse across the higher terrain, crossing the upper creek and then on up a long slick rock slope, until we reach the fabled "White Domes". It's just a small, somewhat colorful group of rocky protrusions coming out of a much larger sheet of white sandstone, but the views are good and the domes are quite eye-catching.

Then we more or less retrace our steps back to the start.

----

To be honest, we haven't been all the way to the domes before, but we did climb out of the canyon once, and it's been on our bucket list for 15 years. We're going for it! :-D

----

Prep: 3 big bottles water, some food, sun hat, gloves for the rocks, stout footware. Sunglasses for the white rock.

Drive: From the Sinclair Station/Davis Market in La Verkin we drive 45 minutes east on Route 59 to Hilldale. The trailhead is up a short easy dirt road close to town.

See you there! M+J :)
