This Saturday we are going to head north of Cedar City where we will visit an excellent rock art site, loaded with great petroglyphs.

This site is at the end of a 1 mile easy flat dirt road, and involves climbing a 130ft. steep dirt slope covered with fallen lava rocks. You will need some agility to negotiate the large lava rocks safely.

Following that, we will drive to nearby Parowan Gap and view the great petroglyphs there, and then go to Parowan and up into the mountains behind, to a place called Hidden Haven, a one mile long trail climbing thru tall piney woods, up to a large rocky cliff that has a small cold stream splashing down over its face.

You may want to bring a swimsuit, a towel, and water shoes of some kind.

At the falls, you can stand against that mossy wall and allow it to wash away all of your cares, leaving you better (and wetter) for the experience.

See you there! M+J :)

Prep: Sunscreen, sun hat and light clothing for the first hike, along with good shoes and leather gloves for the rough bits. 1 big bottle of water with extra in the vehicle for refills.

At the falls, bring easily dried clothes, a towel, and water shoes (if planning to test the falling waters).

----

Meet: Drive north from St. George on I-15 to Anderson Junction (Toquerville exit) and into the parking lot of Sapp Brothers Travel Center (look for the huge coffee pot in the sky). Go to the part of the lot farthest from the store.

Drive: From Sapp's, it's 42 paved miles to the first hike (plus 1 mile of dirt), then 8 miles to Parowan Gap, then 16 miles to Hidden Haven. The return is roughly 50-60 miles.

All but 2 flat miles are paved.
