West Wycombe Walk including a visit to the Hell Fire Caves– Circular Walk of ca. 8miles

Come join us for a walk through a small part of the Chiltern hills, starting the walk in Saunderton and walking through a number of very old woods stopping for lunch in West Wycombe. As part of the walk we will be visiting the Hell Five Caves (entrance fees included payment for this meetup) in a series of man-made chalk and flint caverns which extend one quarter of a mile underground. The caves were excavated between 1748 and 1752 for the infamous Francis Dashwood, 15th Baron le Despencer (2nd Baronet), co-founder of the notorious Hell Fire Club, whose meetings were held within the caves.

You do not need to be super fit as we will take it at a leisurely pace, but you will give yourself a bit of a workout and it will be muddy in places. There is about 4.5hrs of walking with 1 hour for lunch.

Getting there:
We will start the walk at 10:00am from Saunderton Station.
Trains leave from Marylebone Station and you will need to catch the 9.00am to arrive at 9:50am.

For those driving there is a parking near the station at Saunderton.

We should be back at the Station for around 4:00pm

What you’ll need:
* Walking boots
* Gaiters or waterproof trousers if raining
* Daypack
* Drinking water
* Light nibbles, such as nuts and raisins
* Packed lunch/money for lunch

We recommend payment in advance via paypal but if you are a regular walker with the group then please contact us about paying on the day in cash.

Entrance to the Fire Caves is included in the cost of this meetup.
