What we’re about
This group offers a happy introduction to mindfulness meditation: what it is, how to do it, why it's worth it. We read, practice, and share our insights & experiences as a circle of friends.
This is a brand new group I'm starting because, having traveled pretty widely, I've found nothing that's doing exactly this → providing an entryway to meditation that's fully accessible to newcomers, happening with others offscreen in Real Life, and free — of both dogma and cost.
There are some strong meditation centers in Philly but there's big potential value in having an approach to mindfulness practice — even just a non-daunting way to get acquainted with the basics – that's not affiliated with any of these particular sanghas, their cultural traditions, or metaphysical teachings. As easy as dropping in for a class at your local gym. Except that this workout has the potential to change your life!
Specifically designed for beginners, we draw from the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn (the pioneer behind Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) as well as the wisdom of Thích Nhất Hạnh.
My own life has been greatly enriched by training in mindfulness, and it gives me joy to share a down-to-earth overview with others pursuing the goodness it offers — or who are just curious about the hype!

See all- Mindfulness Meditation in the WissahickonNeeds location
A happy introduction to mindfulness meditation. Over the course of a 3-mile stroll through the Wissahickon, we will playfully explore a few different facets of this nourishing practice.
Specifically designed for beginners, this outing will give you a sense of what mindfulness meditation is, how it works, and why it's worth doing. We draw from practical points shared by Jon Kabat-Zinn, the pioneer behind Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, as well as the wisdom of Thích Nhất Hạnh.
Although designed as a 101 session, seasoned practitioners may quite appreciate the refreshing "reset" of revisiting foundational elements — and the Wissahickon is a splendid place to rest one's awareness!
Come expecting a relaxed and friendly vibe, like a good meditation sitting. The starting location will be at the top of 100 Steps. Feel free to arrive 10 min or so early if you want to hang out and chat a bit before we begin!
