Our annual fall liturgy of impermanence.

Thurs. Oct. 23: Meditation followed by Annual Reading of Ikkyu's Hyper-Zen Poem Skeletons. Parts for all. Discussion of the poem follows.
Sun. Oct. 26: Hungry Ghost Ceremony. The only annual ceremony we do on a Sunday. We do not invite in our Hungry Ghosts to dispel them. We invite them in to offer acceptance & rest in the safe space of the sangha. Hungry Ghosts are things which haunt us, things done to us, or done by us, or another, or things which bring us fear or unease. We offer them rest. The ceremony incorporates meditation. You are invited to bring some token of your Hungry Ghost to place in the center of the group. [& take it away afterward.]
Thurs. Oct. 30. Meditation on the Dissolution of the Body. This is the most standard meditation & practice across all schools of Buddhism. In Order of Interbeing Zen, lay practitioners are advised to do it once a month. This sangha does it once a year. It is a deep practice with impermanence.
Sunday Nov. 6. Meditation on the Five Remembrances of Death & Loss. Discussion Follows.
ALSO ON SUN. NOV. 6: IN MIDDLE HOUR. Death Cafe XLVIIl: All Souls. Moderated conversation about death. Whatever attendees are bringing with them, we hold in Deep Listening, whether it is fear, curiosity, anger, anticipation, whatever. We aim to make it easier & more common to speak about death openly & frankly, accepting it as part of human life with less fear & avoidance.
Sun. Nov. 9: Our annual Veterans' Day Observance for living veterans & active duty now facing many challenges & inviting the presence of those who have Continued in other forms.
