Circle of Thought - Humor
Details
The Circle of Thought is a new event format where we dive deep into the expansiveness of an intellectual concept, while creating synergies by building up on each other’s ideas.
Let's dive into the fascinating and often enigmatic world of Humor.
Humor is a multifaceted concept that has intrigued thinkers, comedians, and philosophers for centuries. This time, we'll embark on a journey to explore humor's definitions, various types, and, of course, one of its most controversial forms: dark humor. Although this event follows the Circle of Thoughts format feel free to share stories and maybe even some jokes. We intend to keep this one as free flowing as possible while sticking to the topic.
🤔 Defining Humor
Here are some questions that we might touch upon in the session:
- What is humor, and how do you personally define it?
- Is humor a universal concept, or does it vary across cultures and individuals?
- Can humor exist without laughter, or is laughter an essential component of humor?
- How does humor relate to happiness, if at all?
- What is dark humor? Is it okay to make fun of the most horrible things that humans experience? Should we set boundaries for humor?
🤣 Food for Thought
As we navigate this discussion on humor and dark humor, let's consider these thought-provoking quotes:
- "Laughter is the closest distance between two people." - Victor Borge
- "Humor is just another defense against the universe." - Mel Brooks
- "Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand." - Mark Twain
- "If you're going to tell people the truth, be funny or they'll kill you." - Billy Wilder
If you've never participated before, here's what to expect:
- 2 hours of deep, interesting conversations in a respectful environment that will elevate your spirit and give you new ideas for life, work or relationships
- a supportive group of people sharing their own unique experiences and viewpoints, and encouraging you to do the same
- a rich mix of newcomers and regulars from different countries and cultures for a broad diversity of opinions and experiences
Please remember the existing rules of this group:

- DO listen actively
- DO approach the conversation with an open mind and be willing to hear different perspectives
- DO make yourself fully present.
- DON'T pull out your phone during the conversation
🚫 No-show policy
As the group size is small, no-shows have a strong negative impact on the group. As such, the policy is that as a general rule, no-shows and same-day cancellations will not be able to sign up for future events. To avoid this:
- Only reserve a spot if you really intend to come.
- If your plans have changed, cancel at least 24 hours before the event, to give people on the waiting list a chance to change their own plans and make it to the event.
- If you have a real last-minute emergency and need to cancel in the last 24 hours, please contact me directly to avoid "no-show" status.
