What Defines a Human? — In the Age of AI
Details
AI can already communicate, create images and music, solve problems, and sometimes even appear empathetic. As AI becomes more capable, asking 'What defines a human?' isn't just abstract, it shapes the future we choose.
In this discussion, we’ll explore consciousness, emotions, creativity, identity, and other qualities we associate with being human — and ask whether they are truly unique to us.
Questions we might discuss:
- What fundamentally distinguishes a human being from today’s AI?
- Is consciousness the key difference? And what exactly do we mean by consciousness?
- Are emotions, empathy, love, and suffering necessary for being human?
- If an AI convincingly expresses emotions, does it matter whether it actually feels them?
- Is human creativity fundamentally different from AI-generated creativity?
- Could an AI ever become conscious — and if it did, should we still consider it merely a machine?
