The Mines E&I Meetup is a forum where Mines alumni, friends, faculty, students, staff, engage entrepreneurs, mentors and angels in collaborative discussions around the latest research, go-to-market strategies and promising solutions to important problems. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5:00 pm at the Buffalo Rose. Hosted by the Mines Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, including the McNeil Center and Beck Venture Center.

We’re in the midst of what may be the biggest run of capital markets transactions of all time. SpaceX IPO’d back in June. Not to be outdone, Anthropic expects to go public in mid-November. OpenAI has signaled it will follow sometime in 2027.
What does all of this mean for the broader tech economy, the venture capital market, and your startup? Come hear our panel dig into Anthropic’s prospectus and give their candid takes on one of the largest IPOs ever and what it signals for the rest of the market.

Ann Lipton (CU Boulder): Professor Lipton joined the University of Colorado, Colorado Law faculty in 2025. Prior to that, she taught at Tulane Law School, clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter, and practiced law in New York City for over 10 years, where she specialized in plaintiff-side securities and corporate litigation at the trial and appellate levels. As a scholar, Lipton explores corporate governance, the relationships between corporations and investors, and the role of corporations in society.
Caitlin Barron (Forbes Partners): Caitlin joined Forbes Partners as a Senior Associate in 2025. She advises on mergers and acquisitions, capital raises, company valuations, and strategic transactions. Caitlin is known for working closely with founders, management teams, and investors, quickly developing a deep understanding of business strategy, financial performance, and growth opportunities to position companies for optimal outcomes.
Bill Miller (First Mile Ventures): Bill founded First Mile Ventures in 2014 after noticing a need for a Colorado-based seed fund; three funds and over 70 investments later, that bet has paid off. Prior to launching FirstMile, Bill was an active angel investor with over 26 companies invested in including Andiamo Systems, Polyserve, NuSpeed, and Blue Spruce Networks. Bill has also been an entrepreneur himself, most notably as the CTO and co-founder of StorageNetworks, raising over $100 million in venture capital and had an IPO on the NASDAQ in 2000.
