Topic: DIY Methodology: A Better Way To Create A Methodology For Your Project
Bio: Many teams, nowadays, claim to follow some kind of pre-packaged agile methodology by the book—Scrum, Kanban, SaFE, etc.—but many (most?) of them have experienced poor results. Others are trying some custom ones, usually with mixed results—but all the good teams I've encountered implemented a custom methodology for their projects. In this talk I'll explain the limitations of the pre-packaged methodologies that cause them to fail in many situations, and I'll describe a better way to create and evolve a custom methodology—based on patterns, pattern languages, and simple rules—made to measure for your project that will greatly increase your chances of success. I'll also give some examples from my experience with real projects from small (three programmers), to very large ones (1300 programmers and testers).
