Friday Night Pickup Sand 4s or 6s

On Friday nights, Fitz's Bar and Grill will have an open court, and we are able to use that for those who want to play some volleyball!

Note that only one court is available, so there will be a max of 24 people allowed to play. Any more than that and you are sitting more than you are playing. If there are 16 or fewer people in attendance you can decide if you want to play 6s or 4s.

All skill levels are welcome, though players should have a basic understanding of the game and be able to at least make their own calls (ie call if you are in the net, over the center line, lifts, and double contacts). While you are not playing, you can order food and drinks from the servers coming out to the patio. And during that downtime, you can check out the players in the sand 2s league taking place on the other courts. There will be some talent playing those games, so take a look!

Basic Pickup Rules

• Games are played to 25 points, win by two, no cap
• No kings court. If there are more than two teams, then you will rotate (as in play two and then sit)
• Related to the above, for the first game if more than two teams are present, the winner will stay on and the loser will come off for the next team. After that, play two and then sit as normal
• Call your own lifts, double contacts, and net contacts. This is pickup play so we are not strict on doubles (ie "spin doubles" will not be called, but if the ball contacts the same person twice in a row call that)

4s Specific Pickup Rules

• Teams do not need to rotate around the court. However, you must maintain your service order
• Open hand tipping is strictly prohibited. Players may use their knuckles to poke the ball or hit roll shots, but may not open hand tip or throw the ball
• If you set the ball over the net, you must be square to where you are setting. Facing sideways and setting over, or facing straight ahead and setting cross court, for example, are not allowed

Players can start arriving at 6:15, with play starting at 6:30. You can play until 9:30 when leagues wrap up for the evening. We look forward to seeing everyone at Fitz's!
