There are 20 people signed up, so we have no idea whether there will be 5 people or 15 show up this Friday. Anything over about 10 will be getting too big for Leaning Tower, so we're going to go to ARBEITER BREWERY on Minnehaha (just south of Lake) instead.

We’re going to do something a little different for the next several weeks. We’re going to focus on one aspect of filmmaking in particular to guide our discussions: cinematography. Cinematography is a vast and maybe little understood part of moviemaking. Each meetup we will examine a different aspect of cinematography—composition, lensing, lighting, color, camera movement, special tricks and effects. By the end we will see movies as we never have before, with a deeper, more nuanced understanding and appreciation.

For the first week, we’ll start with a general introduction to cinematography, with the movie that is the master class on every aspect of filmmaking: Citizen Kane. We’ll use it to gain a general overview of most of the topics we’ll be covering in more depth later, camera dynamics, lensing, lighting. CK was shot by Gregg Toland.
