We had a great time at the SRE meetup, and are excited to announce our next event. Please join us for another afternoon of learning and networking. We've got a line-up of informative talks on Automation, each followed by live Q&A, and a happy hour to connect with the speakers and other attendees.
Once again this event will be hosted at our beautiful Target headquarters, at Target Plaza Commons: 1001 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55403.
AGENDA
Event Kicks off at 2pm with an introduction by our MC - Denise Mogren from Target.
Platform Engineering: Getting it Right
James Bell, Principal Software Engineer, Samsung SmartThings
Many organizations are beginning to recognize the benefits companies realize from investing in a platform engineering group. This space is filled with tools, practices, and techniques that can reduce the amount of time and money organizations spend on non-functional aspects of a software-based business. This talk will focus on:
> Defining platform engineering in the context of your organization,
> How success stories like Target happen behind the scenes,
> Some cautionary tales from others who have struggled to implement the program.

Unlocking Certificate Automation with Locksmith
Jeff Colfer, Lead Engineer, Target
Trey Zahradka, Senior Engineer, Target
Certificate Management for applications is an important operational and security maintenance task. Manual renewal of X.509 certificates is time consuming, error-prone, and can lead to major incidents or business impacts if mismanaged.
Learn how we developed Locksmith, an attestation service to provision and inject obfuscated X.509 certificates into deployments at inception, and the challenges we faced while implementing at enterprise scale.

Ironies of Automation
Maria Jackson, Software Engineering Manager, Shipt
Lisanne Bainbridge's paper Ironies of Automation was published 40 years ago and has over 2700 citations. As automators, how are these "ironies" still affecting our work? Maria will share some insight on what we've learned in 40 years to help improve our automated systems. Join the Q&A after the talk for some lively discussion on the topic.
