Power BI has featured numeric parameters as a way to enable “What If?” analytics for a long time. The addition of field parameters is fairly new. This innovative feature enables users without report edit rights to dynamically change the content the content of a table, a matrix, or a chart. Pick your own rows, change the measure being graphed, even define your own drill down hierarchy on the fly. In the past, this could be done with bookmark trickery or DAX gymnastics. With field parameters, this behavior is very straightforward.
Come to September’s meeting to get a brief refresher on numeric parameters and “What If?” analytics, then a dive into field parameters and all they can do. Let’s brainstorm together what else we can do with this innovative data structure.
