Book Club: The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck (1939)
Details
Hello and welcome to the 10th best novel on our list, The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. This novel is about the Joads, a poor family of tenant farmers driven out of Oklahoma by the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression to seek their fortune in California, like hundreds of thousands of others at that time.
The novel won the 1940 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and is still regularly taught to high school and college students, due to its enduring themes of injustice and neverending hope.
I read this novel years ago, and I'm going to read it again for this event. I look forward to hearing about your experience with it.
