What we’re about

Update January 14th, 2025: We were initially planning to relocate to South Clairemont Recreation Center, but because park officials there close and lock the bathrooms at 3 p.m. every Saturday, that Clairemont location will not work for us. Instead, beginning Saturday January 18th, our volleyball group will be playing at Tecolote Shores which is a different part of Mission Bay. We will be just south of San Diego Mission Bay Resort. We are still playing outside on the grass.

Update April 24, 2024: Since significantly more males than females have been attending our Meetup events, and since this is supposed to be a co-ed group, i.e., we are striving for a balance of 50% males and 50% females, new male applicants are being placed on our waitlist until we are able to attain a more optimal balance in our group. If you are a male and you are considering joining our group, you should still request membership as soon as possible, since we are processing our wait-list on a first-come, first serve basis. However, if you have already requested membership in our group, please do not request it again, since you will lose your position in our waitlist.

We are a casual co-ed grass volleyball group. Typically, we will play games of 4 vs. 4, 5 vs. 5, or 6 vs. 6. every Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until sunset. Although some of our members enjoy playing barefoot, shoes are recommended for safety reasons.

We are also a social group, and so our members will periodically host a number of activities including potlucks, park BBQ's, holiday parties, Super Bowl parties, movie nights, or just social events at a restaurant.

Although this is a "casual-friendly" type of volleyball group, we still enjoy long rallies, and so beginning on August 1, 2024 we are now requiring all prospective members to go through a brief trial period where the leadership team can assess whether we believe you would be a good fit for our group. We are looking primarily for people who try to play 3-contact volleyball (rather than just immediately returning the ball over the net with their first contact), who understand the setter's role in a volleyball game, and who are skilled enough to at least fairly consistently serve the ball in-bounds, return a served ball, and make controlled passes to their teammates.

If this sounds like you, we would love to meet you. We would encourage you to request membership to our group as soon as possible since there is currently a wait-list and membership requests will generally be processed in first come, first serve order.
