Blue Mountain Deadman Point Hike

Details

Join me for a moderate hike in the Blue Mountain Recreation Area this coming Saturday! We'll climb through the forest, down to Hayes Creek, then up the other side to the ridge which we'll traverse to Deadman Point where there are great views of Missoula, Miller Creek and down the Bitterroot Valley towards Lolo. We'll eat lunch there, descend the point on the other side then follow the same trails back to our vehicles.

The distance is approximately seven miles with an elevation gain of 1700 feet. You should be able to hike that distance and climb half of it without difficulty. The ascents are broken up with a descent to the creek. The route is shown in the photos section. Please note that this is hike is more strenuous than the one that starts at the motorcycle trailhead above the gate. The pace will be moderate with stops to regroup, drink water, snap photos, etc.

Bring layers of clothing for climbing/descending, a shell for unexpected rain, water and lunch. Dogs are welcome provided they don't chase wildlife and aren't aggressive towards other dogs or people.
