Pride Hike + Float at Coquina Lake

Details

Happy Pride month!! A little intro for those who don't know me: I'm Luke and I host guided trips for my small trail guiding business, Bitterroot Backpacking. This summer, I've made it my goal to host community hikes and outdoor events that help bring folks together from all parts of the community. No matter what age, physical fitness level, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or what state you're from, you're welcome on these excursions.

Coquina Lake is a beautiful 6 mi round trip hike to two different lakes (Coquina Lake and Upper Bear Lake) with 1100 ft of elevation gain. The trail is rated as moderate, with a few sections of strenuous uphill hiking. Proper hiking clothing is recommended. We may encounter fallen trees, small streams, and other water or muddy features that we may need to climb over or avoid. The trail could also be overgrown or deviate from the original path due to obstacles.

I plan to carry my own packraft, but you are welcome to bring your own! Packraft Rentals are available for $58 through the Bitterroot Backpacking website. Rentals include a packraft, paddle, lifevest, and backpack. Everything together weighs only 7-8 lbs. All of it is ultralight gear!

We'll meet at the Bear Creek Pass Trailhead at 11:15 am or carpool from the Hwy 93 Walmart at 9 am, leaving at 9:15 am. We'll spend 5-6 hrs total hiking and floating and the carpool should return around 6-7 pm.

At the lake, we'll eat snacks and lunch, enjoy the good weather, float on the lake, and maybe even swim if it's warm enough!

Please make sure to bring your own:
- Lunch / Snacks
- 1 L of water
- Hand sanitizer and sanitary products
- Sunscreen
- Raincoat
- Mid weight warm/insulating layer
- Athletic or hiking shoes/boots
- Backpack
- Bear spray

I carry first aid and a Garmin gps. I'm also CPR and Wilderness First-Responder Certified.

Dogs and other pets are welcome!

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message!
