CRAFT: Character Region Awareness for Text Detection

By Bohumír Zámečník (Rossum): CRAFT is a nice text detection method which supports arbitrarily deformed scene text. It finds texts bottom-up by predicting location of each character and affinity with neighboring characters and has a clever representation for both. To overcome a lack of real datasets with character-level annotations a model to predict weak labels is bootstrapped using synthetic data.
