Digital transformation in Europe: a glimpse into the EU Digital Strategy
Details
In 2020, the European Commission unveiled its EU Digital Strategy aimed at shaping Europe's digital future and positioning Europe as a leader in digitalisation and data economy. It comprises several legislative initiatives on data, AI and cybersecurity to boost data capabilities of European companies by creating a market for data and to set a world-first framework for ethical and trustworthy AI in line with European values.
The EU Digital Strategy offers businesses both challenges (new requirements with potential administrative and compliance burden) and opportunities (increased access to data, data sharing and portability for new business propositions). While most of the announced initiatives are currently being in draft status and further changes can be expected, it is important for businesses to assess the potential impact of the EU digital strategy on their activities and business models and to identify where changes may be required, in particular when it comes to data and data governance, and AI.
