Acroyoga (acrobatic yoga) lessons and jam

Details

Would you like to try something different and fun, bring out your inner child or acrobat? Acroyoga is an activity that combines yoga and acrobatics. Acroyoga includes many types of partner and group acrobatics in which at least someone is lifted. As such, it draws on traditions of circus arts, cheerleading, and dance acro.

No partner or experience is needed, beginners welcome. The venue provides matts and a qualified teacher, you only need to bring a bottle of water and a willingness to give it a go.

The evening starts with a class taught by a qualified teacher, then follows with a Jam (free play).

6:30 to 8pm: All Levels, Weekly Class.

We will take you through a warm up, games, strengthening techniques and play with bringing them together into fun transitions, wacky washing machines and flows. Beginners, improvers and everyone else welcome! Just bring a willingness to give it a go.

8 to 9:30pm: Acroyoga Jam.

Jams are a great opportunity for people of all levels to learn new skills, connect with other acroyogis, and have fun exploring the practice. During a jam, participants typically take turns basing, flying, and spotting each other, though chatting, watching, and hanging out’s fine too. It’s a space where we can play with specific skills or sequences, practice things we’ve been doing in class, or experiment and make things up.

Come and join us in the joy of playing about balancing on each other.

Please have attended a class or have some acroyoga experience before coming to a jam.

About the Teacher

William loves being both the flyer and baser, with a focus on funky flows and wicked whips. His acroyoga journey started at a slackline jam in a park in 2014, seeing people balancing on top of other people he thought 'I want to try that' and so the journey and addiction began. He then perused acroyoga going to classes, workshops and jams as far around the world as New Zealand. William has attended several acroyoga teacher trainings, has been teaching acroyoga since 2016 and ran regular classes in Reading from 2017 to 2020, he also teaches workshops around the globe. To keep his knowledge and skills fresh William attends regular Jams and Conventions.

Notes:

  1. These classes and jams are held in a hired hall, with protective matts and a qualified teacher; so there is a nominal charge to cover these. Concessions available.

  2. You don't need to be a yogi, an acrobat, or super fit to participate (I'm certainly not!), but a reasonable level of fitness and flexibility is required.

  3. A tolerance of physical contact with new friends is essential. Apart from the acroyoga positions themselves, there will normally be a spotter, whose job is to ensure your safety. The spotter may need to hold you by the waist, arms or legs etc., to guide you back to earth safely.
